Traveling Golfer TV show hits links on the Hammock Coast

There are many stops along America’s golf trails. But there may be no trail — anywhere — that contains more exciting, high-level, historic stops than along the Waccamaw Golf Trail on South Carolina’s Hammock Coast.

The Hammock Coast Golf Trail is a collection of 12 premier public golf courses that can be found on the Hammock Coast — from Georgetown to Pawleys Island and Murrells Inlet.

Many of the courses were carved from properties that were once rice plantations many decades ago. All of them exude a Lowcountry charm that adds warmth and hospitality to the modern golf scene.

The selection of courses includes some that are ranked among the top layouts in the state and even nationally. At the same time they are set amidst the brisk social scene and impressive cultural attractions of South Carolina’s historic Hammock Coast. Located south of Myrtle Beach in Georgetown County, the Hammock Coast is one of the oldest vacation destinations in America. Its bounty goes beyond award-winning golf and includes beautiful beaches, superb restaurants and shops, and an outstanding selection of accommodations.

That backdrop, along the Waccamaw Golf Trail, provides a spectacular setting for the July episode of the Traveling Golfer television show.

People have been the Hammock Coast for years to enjoy the golf and the nightlife, and, as Meredith Kirk, LPGA teaching professional, says, “When they come to … Murrells Inlet, Litchfield Beach and Pawleys Island, they fall in love with the lifestyle. It’s contagious.”

While this episode of The Traveling Golfer show pays major attention to four courses along the Waccamaw Golf Trail – Heritage, Caledonia Golf and Fishing Club, Pawleys Plantation and Willbrook Plantation – there also is a look at the other eight courses along the trail. They are Founders Club at Pawleys Island, Tradition, Blackmoor, River Club, Litchfield Country Club, TPC, True Blue and Wachesaw Plantation East. Also, for the best in Lowcountry accommodations, there is a look at the Inlet Sports Lodge.

The Traveling Golfer host Tony Leodora says he’s been enjoying golf along the Hammock Coast for 35 years. “There is fun everywhere,” he said, “but when you come to the southern end of the Grand Strand (on the Hammock Coast), life slows down. There is a different pace and a different feel.”

The Hammock Coast Golf Trail is the best way to navigate a vacation through this Lowcountry setting.

The July episode of the Traveling Golfer airs as a scheduled weekly feature show on NBC Sports and NBC Sports+ throughout four markets in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. NBC Sports airings are 10:30 a.m. on Sundays, 10 p.m. on Tuesdays and 11 a.m. on Thursdays. NBC Sports+ airs the show at 8 p.m. Mondays and Fridays. In addition, the show airs nationally, three times every day, on the new Fun Roads Network (funroads.tv/schedule) – in the San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Wichita and Detroit markets. It also will air a number of times in the Month of July on “Rivertalk” on HTC-4 in Myrtle Beach.

As part of every Traveling Golfer show there is the additional feature, “Tech Talk,” hosted by Tour Edge Golf experts, such as President Dave Glod. With years of experience as a club maker, Glod presents an inside look at the research and development of high-quality golf equipment.

Responding to golfers’ never-ending demands to learn more about interesting golf courses and golf resorts across the country and around the world, well-traveled host Tony Leodora created the Traveling Golfer so he could take viewers on video trips to some of the most exciting golf locations. For the fourth time in five years, the show was honored as the No. 1 Golf Television Show in America in the prestigious International Network of Golf awards, presented at the PGA Merchandise Show in January of 2020.

The Traveling Golfer is a series of monthly shows hosted by Leodora, who has 19 years of experience in televised golf. The featured destination stays on the website for one month, before being replaced by a new show. Alternate shows also air in a two-month rotation.
