Located in Georgetown County and comfortably nestled between Charleston and Myrtle Beach, this section of the Atlantic coast spans some of the state’s most awarded beaches and historic small towns. Renowned for its deep cultural roots and coastal landscapes, the Hammock Coast invites visitors to slow down and embrace a quieter pace of life. Such a central position makes the Hammock Coast an ideal destination for those seeking a tranquil retreat with convenient access to the very best of the Palmetto State.

The Hammock Coast includes six distinct South Carolina communities, each offering a unique perspective: Pawleys Island, Murrells Inlet, Litchfield Beach, southern Garden City, Georgetown, and Andrews. Water has long defined the Hammock Coast — from the Atlantic Ocean, marshes, historic riverfronts, and the quiet inland where five rivers flow into Winyah Bay.

Widely celebrated as the “Seafood Capital of South Carolina,” Murrells Inlet is a historic fishing village where the fresh catch of the day remains the centerpiece of local dining. The community is home to the iconic MarshWalk, a half-mile wooden boardwalk with spectacular views, live music, and waterfront access to a selection of fan-favorite restaurants. Visitors find inspiration at Brookgreen Gardens, a National Historic Landmark featuring world-class sculpture and botanical beauty. And at nearby Huntington Beach State Park, a coastal preserve is home to the Moorish-style Atalaya Castle and also serves as one of the premier birdwatching destinations in the South. For on-the-water fun, local marinas provide deep-sea fishing charters, dolphin-watching cruises, and quiet kayak tours through the marsh.
