3 Hammock Coast golf courses make Southeast best-of list

Golf is one of the most popular pastimes in the Southeast United States, and South Carolina’s Hammock Coast® is no exception, with its award-winning courses and beautiful scenery.

Three Hammock Coast golf courses have been ranked in the Top 25 Public Golf Courses on the Southeast Coast: Caledonia Golf & Fish Club (No. 9), True Blue Golf Club (No. 10), and Pawleys Plantation Golf and Country Club (No. 13)

The list was created by Beautiful Golf Courses, a recreation and sports website.

“The golf courses on the Hammock Coast are some of the best in the state of South Carolina and beyond,” said Bob Seganti, PGA general manager of Caledonia and True Blue. “Having three listed in the top 10 courses in the Southeast by Beautiful Golf Courses – including Caledonia, True Blue and our friends at Pawleys Plantation – is another feather in our cap as we continue to attract visitors to this beautiful area.”

Beth Stedman, president and CEO of the Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce, said she was glad to hear this wonderful news.

“Congratulations to these three local courses that made this list of top public courses in the Southeast,” Stedman said. “We’re lucky to have these beautiful courses right here in our community—and the people behind them who make every visit special.”

Caledonia and True Blue are sister courses, and while linked by Mike Strantz’s creative genius, the two courses offer dramatically different experiences.

Caledonia, Strantz’s first solo design, winds through centuries-old live oak trees draped in Spanish moss, blending seamlessly into the natural beauty of the South Carolina Lowcountry. The course is renowned for its strategic design, unforgettable visuals, and iconic finishing hole along the Waccamaw River.

Located adjacent to Caledonia, True Blue presents a striking contrast. The expansive layout features generous fairways, dramatic waste areas, and bold green complexes. With five par 3s and five par 5s, True Blue showcases Strantz’s willingness to challenge convention while creating a course that is both visually stunning and enjoyable to play.

Caledonia and True Blue were recently ranked among Golfweek’s Top 100 Resort Courses in America, further solidifying their place among the nation’s best designs.

Pawleys Plantation has set the standard for Pawleys Island golf since its opening in 1988. At the heart of Pawleys’ appeal is a Jack Nicklaus designed golf course that is widely regarded as one of the Golden Bear’s best. The front nine plays through 200-year-old, moss-draped oak trees, showcasing the beauty of the South Carolina Lowcountry, and the closing nine is as memorable as any in the Palmetto State. Six of the final nine holes play along a tidal marsh, challenging players to summon their best golf in a setting that is visually stunning.
