Hammock Day festival set for Saturday, July 20, at the Hammock Shops Village

The rope hammock — a hand-woven bed, two wooden spreader bars, and a clew knot with a ring for hanging — perfectly represents the relaxation and a laid-back atmosphere of South Carolina’s Hammock Coast®

That’s why each year, the Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce and South Carolina’s Hammock Coast® hold a special event for Hammock Day with a fun community event featuring vendors and free Hammock Coast® swag.

This year, the Chamber and Hammock Coast are teaming up with The Original Hammock Shop and Hammock Shops Village in Pawleys Island, where the Hammock Day festival will be held on Saturday, July 20, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Officially, National Hammock Day is observed on July 22, but we’re celebrating early here on South Carolina’s Hammock Coast!)

From 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., locals and visitors are invited to swing by the Hammock Shops Village, 10880 Ocean Highway, Pawleys Island, to enjoy shopping, games, live music, and free giveaways throughout the day. Score a free official Hammock Coast T-shirt from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (while supplies last!) at the Chamber and Hammock Coast’s station. There will be food trucks, brews by New South Brewery, kids activities, including inflatables, face painting and cornhole, and live beach music from 1 to 5 p.m. by The Tams and The Embers.

And, best of all, there are chances to win an Original Pawleys Island Hammock every hour, as well as tickets to Brookgreen Gardens, and more Hammock Coast® swag. Hammock Coast® T-shirts and swag will be available only from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. or until when supplies run out. To enter for a chance to win a hammock, people only need to swing by the Chamber and Hammock Coast® booth in the Village or at the Original Hammock Shop. No purchase is required.

However, attendees can score an extra entry when making a purchase at any store or restaurant in the Hammock Shops Village. When a purchase is made, the customer will be given a special entry form. Once filled out, the customer must drop off any of these special entry forms at either the Chamber/Hammock Coast booth (from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.) or the Original Hammock Shop (from 10 a.m.-4:45 p.m.)

This is the sixth year the Chamber and tourism leaders have held a special recognition event to celebrate the hammock. But this is the first year they have joined forces with the Hammock Shops Village for the event.

“We have all celebrated Hammock Day every year in our own unique way to give back to the community, provide entertainment, and welcome visitors and educate them on what our iconic coastline has to offer,” said Todd Nifong, vice president of sales and marketing for Pawleys Island Hammocks. “It was only natural for us to consolidate this into one main event for everyone to come together and enjoy and help us to continue to grow into a can’t-miss multi-day festival to celebrate National Hammock Day.”

He urges locals and visitors alike to attend this year’s Hammock Day Festival at the Hammock Shops Village.

Also performing will be the Embers, featuring Craig Woolard. (Photo provided)

“This event is for our community and everyone visiting the Hammock Coast,” Nifong said. “We have a great lineup of classic beach music acts, great food and drink, lots of stuff for kids of all ages to enjoy, and most importantly having fun.”

Beth Stedman, president and CEO of the Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce, said there could be no better partner to celebrate Hammock Day with than the folks at Pawleys Island Hammocks and the Hammock Shops Village.

“It’s a perfect combination,” she said, “and we are so excited to welcome both local residents and our valued tourists to celebrate with us.”

Other event details:

About the Hammock Coast

South Carolina’s Hammock Coast is one of the Palmetto State’s top tourist destinations. Generations of visitors have made Georgetown County their preferred vacation spot. Buoyed by its large selection of vacation rental condos and homes and wide-open, pristine beaches, Hammock Coast beaches routinely make the best-of lists from various media outlets.

In addition to the beaches, people are drawn to the Hammock Coast for its nature-centric pastimes such as fishing, boating, kayaking, birding and more. Historic sites, such as the Kaminski House, Atalaya Castle at Huntington Beach State Park and Front Street in Georgetown, are also popular must-do activities for visitors of all ages.

The Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce operates two Visitors Centers — one at 531 Front St. in Historic Georgetown and the other at 28 Wall St. in the Litchfield community of Pawleys Island and located just outside the gate access to the Litchfield By the Sea resort.

The Hammock Shops Village is located at 10880 Ocean Highway, Pawleys Island. For more information about the Hammock Day Festival, click here. For more information about the Hammock Coast, click here. or follow on Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest. Or call 843-546-8436.
