America’s Premier Golf Destination

The Hammock Coast is a great place to take a South Carolina golf trip. In fact, it’s one of America’s premier golf vacation destinations. Don’t just take our word for it. Some of the most respected names in the game have heaped praise on our area.

The Hammock Coast is home to 12 public courses and three of them – Caledonia, Heritage Club, and True Blue – have been ranked among “America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses” by Golf Digest. Litchfield Country Club and Willbrook Plantation have also been ranked among the nation’s Top 50 Courses for Women.

That list of standouts doesn’t even include, surprisingly, Pawleys Plantation, where golfers will find the highly acclaimed Jack Nicklaus design on one of South Carolina’s most scenic layouts. Links Magazine ranked the Pawleys Island community as the 10th best island in all of golf.

In short, we know your golf game will be even better while you’re playing any of the courses along South Carolina’s Hammock Coast. To make it easier, a cooperative of all 12 Hammock Coast public courses can be found at the Hammock Coast Golf Trail.

It’s Always Tee Time…

So what makes golf along the Hammock Coast great? First, it’s home to stunning natural beauty. Centuries-old oak trees, salt marshes and naturally occurring bodies of water have provided course architects with a near perfect canvas (just take a drive down “Oak Alley” at Caledonia for the perfect proof here).

Famed designers such as Mike Strantz (True Blue, Caledonia) and Dan Maples (Heritage Club, Willbrook) made maximum use of the property they were provided.

The result is a collection of golf courses that can stand alongside any in America. An underrated facet of the area’s popularity is the diversity of experiences it offers. True Blue and Caledonia couldn’t be more different. Heritage Club showcases Lowcountry golf at its finest, while Pawleys Plantation wows players with a back nine routed along a saltwater marsh.

Litchfield, the Hammock Coast’s first course, features an old-school country club-type experience, while Founders Club, the area’s newest layout, is a modern design from the jump.
