POSTPONED: ‘Wave That Flag’ event postponed due to weather concerns for Monday evening

The ‘Wave That Flag’ event has been POSTPONED due to weather concerns. Weather reports are calling for severe thunderstorms during the event hours. A new date has not been set, but it will most likely be in late summer. We will share any updates about this popular event here.

Are you and your crew searching for something different to do for the July 4th holiday on South Carolina’s Hammock Coast®? Well, look no further.

After rave reviews last year, the “Wave That Flag” festival, which culminates with a spectacular laser light show and patriotic music to celebrate American independence, is returning to the Litchfield community of Pawleys Island on South Carolina’s Hammock Coast®.

The festival will be held Monday, July 1, at Retreat Park in Pawleys Island. A free event hosted by the Georgetown County Parks and Rec Department and coordinated by VibeTime. The park, which will be open from 5 to 10 p.m., is located at 633 Wildcat Way in the Litchfield community of Pawleys Island.

“We invite the community out to enjoy a free evening that is family friendly and won’t break the bank,” said Blaine Harvey, event organizer. “This will be an affordable event with less anxiety than a fireworks show, and it will still have the wow factor.”

The Laser Light show, produced by Stone Entertainment and sponsored by the Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce and South Carolina’s Hammock Coast®, will beam over the heads of festival-goers, creating a dazzling display that will be set to a playlist featuring patriotic-themed music. Multiple fog machines will be used, as well, creating the appearance of a roof overhead, enhancing the visual experience for attendees.

The “Wave That Flag” event will also feature live music by Doc Simons and JP Taylor, food trucks, vendors and even kickball games.

The Wave That Flag event will also feature live music by Doc Simons and JP Taylor, food trucks, vendors, and even Liberty Kickball Classic games.

“We will have a lot of local and regional vendors, allowing people to enjoy dinner and local craft beers,” said Blaine Harvey, one of the event’s organizers. “The gates open at 5 p.m. and bands hit the stage at 6 p.m.”

He said they will start the Laser Light show when the sun goes down.

“Kickball games start at 6 p.m. with a field for tournament play and a field dedicated to kids open play. Face painters and other artists will also be there vending.”

The Laser Light Show will be the second time the light-and-music experience has been held on the Hammock Coast for a Fourth of July-themed event.

“The Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce and the Hammock Coast are pleased to sponsor this Laser Light Show to celebrate Independence Day,” said Beth Stedman, the Chamber’s president and CEO. “It’s a pleasure to work with the Georgetown County Parks and Rec team to make this event happen for both local residents and visitors to South Carolina’s Hammock Coast.”

The Wave That Flag Festival is only one several of exciting Independence Day-themed events happening on the Hammock Coast this year. Other events include parades, fireworks and concerts. For a look at the seven amazing things to do for July 4th on the Hammock Coast, click here.
