It’s really sway better here as we once again celebrate Hammock Day

National Hammock Day only comes around once a year, but on South Carolina’s Hammock Coast, we’re setting aside two days for celebrations!

Every year, the Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce and South Carolina’s Hammock Coast highlight the hammock with a fun community event featuring vendors and free Hammock Coast swag.

Officially, National Hammock Day is observed on Saturday, July 22, but this year, thanks to a special partnership with The Original Hammock Shop, local celebrations will span two days – featuring free giveaway of T-shirts, food and, best of all, hammocks!

On Friday, July 21, (that’s Hammock Day Eve, folks), the Chamber of Commerce and the Hammock Coast will host its 5th annual Hammock appreciation event at the Chamber’s Visitor Center at 28 Wall St. in the Litchfield community of Pawleys Island.

From 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., the community and vacationers are invited to swing by the Visitor Center to enjoy free food, games and an official Hammock Coast T-shirt (while supplies last!).

And, best of all, there are three chances to win an Original Pawleys Island Hammock, courtesy of the Hammock Shop, tickets to Brookgreen Gardens, and more Hammock Coast swag. This special package will be given away every hour of the event — at 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m.

Throughout the three-hour event, Chamber of Commerce staff members will be handing out official Hammock Coast T-shirts and other Hammock Coast-branded swag. This is the fifth year the Chamber and tourism leaders have hosted a special recognition event to celebrate the hammock.

To enter for a chance to win the hammock, people only need to swing by the Visitors Center and fill out a registration form during the event. No purchase is required.

Some Chamber-member food vendors will also be on hand to celebrate National Hammock Day by providing free food or beverages to the first 100 visitors. Vendors include Kona Ice, Smoothie King, 7Brew, Chick-fil-A, Sunset Slush, and MyMikeCooks.

Relaxation Stations will be provided by Chamber members and three of the Hammock Coast’s busiest and best beach-centric members: Cabana Boy Beach Services, Seaside Chairs & Umbrellas and The Original Hammock Shop.

The Long Bay Symphony is returning this year with its popular touch-and-play instruments, allowing children a chance to play violins and other instruments. New York Life will provide free Child IDs.

The Georgetown Parks and Rec team will provide family-friendly games, and everyone will have the chance to meet mascots Forest the Squirrel and the Chick-fil-A cow!

But the fun and giveaways don’t end at the Chamber’s Friday event. The Original Hammock Shop will host its own celebration on Saturday, July 22, officially National Hammock Day. From 2-8 p.m., the Hammock Shop, located at 10880 Ocean Highway, Pawleys Island, will welcome the community for free music and kids’ activities. There will also be more chances to win an Original Pawleys Island Hammock.

“We couldn’t ask for a better partner to celebrate National Hammock Day with than the folks at The Original Hammock Shop,” said Chamber President and CEO Beth Stedman. “It’s a perfect pairing — the Hammock Coast and the Hammock Shop.

“We are so excited to welcome both local residents and our valued tourists to celebrate with us over two days.”

Alora Baver, the general manager of the Hammock Shop, is ready, too.

“The Original Hammock Shop supports relaxation with the Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce on National Hammock Day,” Baver said. “We are looking forward to another year of fun, sun, and celebration!”

South Carolina’s Hammock Coast is one of the Palmetto State’s top tourist destinations. Generations of visitors have made Georgetown County their preferred vacation spot. Buoyed by its large selection of vacation rental condos and homes and wide-open, pristine beaches, Hammock Coast beaches routinely make the best-of lists from various media outlets.

In addition to the beaches, people are drawn to the Hammock Coast for its nature-centric pastimes such as fishing, boating, kayaking, birding and more. Historic sites, such as the Kaminski House, Atalaya Castle at Huntington Beach State Park and Front Street in Georgetown, are also popular must-do activities for visitors of all ages.

The official Visitor Center is located at 28 Wall St. in the Litchfield community of Pawleys Island and located just outside the gate access to the Litchfield By the Sea resort.
