12 Jul Hammock Day Festival set for July 20 at the Hammock Shops Village in Pawleys Island The rope hammock — a hand woven bed, two wooden spreader bars, and a clew knot with a ring for hanging — represents the relaxation and a laid-back atmosphere of South Carolina’s Hammock Coast® That’s why each year, the Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce and South Carolina’s Hammock Coast highlight National Hammock Day with a fun community event featuring vendors and free Hammock Coast swag. South Carolina’s Hammock Coast derives its name from the famous rope hammocks famously made in Pawleys Island. This is the sixth year the Chamber and tourism leaders have held a special recognition event to celebrate the hammock. But this is the first year they have joined forces with Pawleys Island Hammocks and the Hammock Shops Village. “We have all celebrated National Hammock Day every year in our own unique way to give back to the community, provide entertainment, and welcome visitors and educate them on what our iconic coastline has to offer,” said Todd Nifong, vice president of Sales and Marketing for Pawleys Island Hammocks. “It was only natural for us to consolidate this into one main event for everyone to come together and enjoy and help us to continue to grow into the cant miss multi day festival to celebrate National Hammock Day.” Also performing will be the Embers, featuring Craig Woolard. (Photo provided) He urges locals and visitors alike to attend this year’s Hammock Day Festival at the Hammock Shops Village. “This event is for our community and everyone visiting the Hammock Coast,” Nifong said. “We have a great lineup of classic beach music acts, great food and drink, lots of stuff for kids of all ages to enjoy, and most importantly having fun.” “We couldn’t ask for a better partner to celebrate National Hammock Day with than the folks at Pawleys Island Hammocks and the Hammock Shops Village,” said Chamber President and CEO Beth Stedman. “It’s a perfect combination and we are so excited to welcome both local residents and our valued tourists to celebrate with us.” Other event details: There will be overflow parking available at South Atlantic Bank and the McGill Law Firm complex. Parking entrances will be on Lachicotte Drive and the Hammock Shops Village south entrance. Parking shuttles will take attendees from lots to the event. All shops and restaurants will be open during the event. Free water will be provided for attendees. Food vendors will be available all day. Attendees are asked to bring chairs.
