20 May Seakart Adventure debuts revolutionary new watercraft in Murrells Inlet The seeds for one of the Hammock Coast’s newest (and most exciting) attractions were planted decades ago – and some 7,300 miles away. Lorrie Zimecki and her family vacationed here when she was a child, starting a life-long love affair with Georgetown County. So when her parents moved to Murrells Inlet and her husband Jason, an avid golfer and surfer, shared her passion for the area, the decision to also relocate to South Carolina’s Hammock Coast™ was an easy one. Time was short when the couple moved to Murrells Inlet four years ago, but Jason established an early goal: he wanted to own a business on the MarshWalk, the half-mile-long boardwalk famous for its string of popular restaurants and water-adventure companies. Jason Zimecki was traveling for work in Dubai when he was introduced to the Seakart, a hybrid watercraft that combines the excitement of a jet ski with the stability of a boat. It was then and there that he had an epiphany – the Seakarts would be perfect for his new business on South Carolina’s Hammock Coast. Seakarts allow users the chance to enjoy the area’s natural beauty and get an adrenaline rush at the same time, and, the owners said, in vehicles that are safe and easy to use. In the spring of 2023, Jason and Lorrie were able to bring that dream to reality, opening SeaKart Adventure and becoming the first business in the United States to provide the opportunity to drive the family-friendly watercraft. (Photo courtesy of Seakart Adventure) Located directly behind Dead Dog Saloon on the MarshWalk, SeaKart Adventure offers one-hour tours of Murrells Inlet in a craft that can hold up to three passengers. A guide leads each tour, letting people know when to speed up, when to slow down, and pointing out dolphins, turtles, birds, and even manatees as they come into view. Seakarts have the ability to navigate in deep or shallow water, meaning tours aren’t impacted by the tidal schedule. “You drive, we guide,” Lorrie said of the adventure. “We start slow going through the inlet to allow everyone to get used to it, but they are easy to drive. We’ve found that people who like to ride jet skis love them, as well.” Powered by a 110-horsepower engine, Seakarts can go up to 27 miles per hour and the average tour typically covers 15 miles of beautiful Murrells Inlet, allowing riders to enjoy one of the Hammock Coast’s natural treasures up close. Seakarts have the ability to navigate in deep or shallow water, meaning tours aren’t impacted by the tidal schedule. Drivers must be at least 18 years of age and show a valid driver’s license. Children 6 years old and up can ride along. All participants must know how to swim. The journey to opening Seakart Adventure was years in the making but expect this one-of-a-kind activity to quickly become one of the Hammock Coast’s most popular attractions.
