• Blessing of the Inlet

  See Ya’ Saturday!
  Of course we are talking about the 17th annual “Blessing of the Inlet” celebration! As always, it is held the First Saturday of May, and this year is no exception!! Belin Memorial United Methodist Church is so excited to be hosting this event. Saturday, May 4th, 2013 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. With over 60 arts and crafts vendors showcasing their wonderful handmade goods a virtual treasure trove awaits you. Whether it is the beautiful paintings or handmade jewelry, there is something for everyone! Don’t forget about all the delicious food prepared by some of Murrells Inlet’s finest restaurants! Also, to tempt you, we have our incredible children’s events, which include face and hair painting, numerous inflatable’s, climbing wall, and the ever popular “Dunking Tank” where they can take turns trying to “dunk” your friends.

• Brookgreen Gardens Enchanted Storybook Forest

  Opening Sunday, May 12 through October 31, younger guests at Brookgreen Gardens may enter the magical world of the new “Enchanted Storybook Forest”, a collection of storybook playhouses created by local builders, architects and organizations.
  Special programs and activities will occur throughout the season and include storytelling under the trees, arts and crafts and lessons on nature. The exhibit will be open daily and is free with garden admission.

• True Blue, An Indigo Workshop

  During the Carolina colony’s early history, rice and indigo shared success as early crops. Learn a bit of history and chemistry and then in a workshop, dye materials to understand the colorfast blue dye that catapulted Carolina into economic wealth by 1750. Lunch included.

• Brookgreen Gardens’ Whispering Wings Butterfly Experience

  April – September

  
  This seasonal exhibit features a lush garden filled with tropical plants where hundreds of butterflies soar through the air. Monarch, Zebra Longwing, Polydamas Swallowtails, Pipevine Swallowtails, Spicebush Swallowtails, Julias, Buckeyes, Queens, Painted Lady, and American Lady are just a few of the species that call Whispering Wings home. We will add dozens of other species throughout the summer and fall. Whispering Wings contains a pupae emergence room where visitors may observe the transformation from chrysalis to adult butterflies. Interpretive signs throughout the exhibit and benches provide a restful place to watch their delicate beauty in flight. The exhibit is open daily from 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
